PLYWOOD CHANDELIER By Casamania & Horm
Collection: Riddled
Designer: Steven Holl
Manufacture year: 2011
Type: Walnut chandelier
Creativity and innovation come together in a luminous sculpture constructed with a 2-mm wooden material, laser etched, and folded in an origami-like fashion, thanks to a complex technological process patented by Horm.it. The LED light, passing through the structure holes, creates unique plays of shadows that allow Steven Holl to offer the same emotion his architecture conveys albeit at a different scale. Ceiling lamp with lampshade made of a material created and patented by Horm.it, a wood-fabric sandwich 2.2 mm thick which, thanks to a number of superficial incisions made with a laser cutter, can be folded up like origami. Solid walnut wood frame. Mounting on the ceiling with steel plate and adjustable steel wires. The ceiling lamp has two separate electrical circuits that power light bulbs mounted in the top half and six hot light LEDs installed in the bottom half. The light bulbs emit light downwards while the LEDs emit light at the sides through the laser-cut holes in the lampshade to create a play of light and shadow on the ceiling and walls. FINISH Walnut DIMENSIONS (LxdXH) cm 101x40x31 - 39.7”x15.7”x 12.2” The originality and workmanship of its legs are the outstanding features of the Riddled table, which incorporates the notion of porosity found in multiple architecture works by Steven Holl. The thin sheets of wood, folded through laser engraving, make this project even more spectacular in its apparent defiance of the laws of physics. These two legs, akin to origami sculptures, allow the passage of the internal light to create a myriad of lights and shadows. Extra-clear tempered glass top with polished edge, 12 mm thick. Legs made from a material designed and patented by Horm.it, composed of a sandwich of wood and fabric 2.2 mm thick, which, thanks to a number of superficial incisions made with a laser cutter, can be folded up like origami. The stainless steel plates, measuring 30 mm in diameter and 10 mm in height, are fixed with M6x18 screws on the triangular frame made of solid wood and attached with UV adhesive onto the glass top. The legs are fixed on the frame with studs with galvanized thread and flat point. Optional LED system with rechargeable batteries (6 hour battery life) on the inside of the legs.
