Overview
PLEIADI By Gallotti&Radice

Designer: Studiopepe

Manufacture year: 2023

Type: Cotton linters and clays wall tiles

The decorative tiles Pleiadi are made of cotton linters and clay, a composite material called Cotton Tone.‎ Linters are the short downy hairs or fuzz adhering to the cotton seeds.‎ After removal from the seeds, the linters receive a second, more energetic ginning to produce very pure cellulose fibres, mostly used for paper, wadding, wicks, felt and viscose yarns.‎Pleiadi gives a new life and new use to what is generally considered a by-product of the cotton industry.‎ The tiles by Studiopepe are available in a natural finish obtained in a low-tech process by mixing earth without artificial dyes or mordant.‎ ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE The cellulose composition of Pleiadi products guarantees high sound absorption performance against extremely low thicknesses.‎ In particular, they have an excellent sound-absorbing response in the fundamental frequencies of the human voice, making them ideal for restoring acoustic comfort in public places, offices, schools and residential complexes.‎ DESIGN INSPIRATION Among others, Studiopepe took inspiration from the three-dimensional architectural surfaces in ceramics designed by Gio Ponti in the 1970s.‎ They also looked to wall textures used by Oscar Niemeyer, interpreting DETAILS AND INSTALLATION The acoustic and decorative tiles (20 by 20 centimetres) can be glued to the wall or ceiling either in uniform repetition or by freely combining single modules.‎
