KIILA COAT STAND By Artek
Collection: Kiila
Designer: Daniel Rybakken
Manufacture year: 2017
Type: Ash coat stand
Composed of three wood legs and the signature Kiila wedge, the Kiila Coat Stand is simple and sturdy. Inspired by the camera tripod on which designer Daniel Rybakken used to hang his coats, it has a low centre of gravity and can accommodate serious weight without tipping over. Like all pieces in the line, its construction has been made transparent: the wedge-shaped metal joint has been left purposely visible, a smooth powder-coated contrast to the solid ash legs. Robust yet elegant, the Coat Stand provides practical storage for jackets, bags, and other items, even in the smallest room. Available in several combinations: Legs: black lacquer or clear lacquer Structure and rail: black powder coating or stone white powder coating Hooks: black or stone white Kiila is a family of useful and versatile small furniture objects designed with hallways and entrances in mind. In homage to Alvar Aalto’s vision, the Norwegian designer Daniel Rybakken has created not a series of individual pieces, but a system of construction: hefty wooden legs connected by wedge-shaped metal joints, left purposefully visible. The name itself draws attention to the design: Kiila is Finnish for “wedge.” Secured with high-grade polyamide pins that double as hooks, the sturdy Kiila Coat Stand and Coat Rack can carry serious weight, while the multipurpose Kiila Bench provides a simple and elegant way to organise space. Beautiful supporting elements for any interior, the Kiila pieces are built to last, a quality visually articulated in the strength of their legs and robustness of their parts.
