Diwan is an upholstered chaise longue, available in a fixed or reclining version.‎ TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS - Fabric or leather - Removable covers.‎‎ - Reclining back: 5 position mechanism.‎ - Structure: injection moulded foam over an F1 steel frame.‎‎ Seat fitted with elastic webbing.‎‎ - Feet: solid slatted ash wood (see stain chart) with non-slip stoppers.‎‎ - Lumbar cushion: H200g fibre.‎‎ - Cylindrical cushion: fire-retardant memory foam covered in H150g fibre.‎‎ The etimologycal root of the word Diwan has had a long journey from India to Persia, through the Ottoman Empire and throughout the Maghreb: the diwan was the "ambassador room" where the royalty received foreign dignitaries.‎ As a token of appreciation, these guests were entertained with all manner of luxuries, one of which was to recline comfortably to parley.‎ Hence, in Europe, the word divan refers to a long cushioned seat, usually without a back to lie down on.‎ Valencia city’s Arab heritage inspired PerezOchando to design a contemporary Diwan.‎ The range includes a chaise longue, as well as modular benches and an original armchair.‎ Claudia and Pedro have reduced sinuous curves of the seats and backs to their bare minimum, bringing an air of lightness to the design.‎ The legs’ formal simplicity provides a touch of distinction.‎ Available in natural or stained wood, they can be combined or contrasted with the upholstery.‎ The benches can be used separately or joined to create long composations.‎ Designed for sitting, rather than lounging, they have a higher seat height than the divan.‎ The chaise loungues and armchairs provide greater support for more relaxed seating.‎ The lumber cushions enhance the comfort of the seats and add another texture of colour to the composition.‎ The cylindrical roll cushions are ideal for the divan’s arms and provide another element to play with.‎ Whether as a coquettish piece for the bedroom or to be enjoyed during long conversations with friends; as a bench for a mueseum or other public space, a long composition for a large waiting area, the Diwan range will offer you a luxury seating.‎ Diwan is the first collaboration of PerezOchando studio with Sancal, although Claudia and Pedro have also collaborated in such unique and recognizable projects of the firm as Silla40 or Tartana during their time at Nadadora studio.‎
