The interior decoration historians tacks the origin of panelling wood floor down in Italy as the evolution of Serlio's floor slab in a more decorative way. The panels with the lattice arranged diagonally to the frame, were more widespread and still called Versailles parquet, while those with the lattice parallel to the edge are called Chantilly parquet.
