The Cestone 3-seater sofa was designed by Antonio Citterio for Flexform in 2008. The designer focused in particular on the back and sides of the sofa, both made of a metal frame covered in woven leather with a damier pattern, contrasting with the seat elements, which are upholstered and soft. The great attention to the sofa's back is instead the feature that makes it ideal for placement in the centre of the room: the upholstery can be in woven leather, made with two different weaves and thicknesses of leather strips. The metal frame can have a satin, chrome, burnished, champagne-coloured or black chrome finish, while the leather is available in many colours, white, black, grey, Bulgarian red and different shades of brown; a suede version is also available. You can also opt for an upholstered fabric version. The base is made of painted metal and solid wood, with a polyurethane foam padding covered with a protective fabric cover. The back cushions are made of sterilised and certified goose down, with an insert of non-deformable material, so that the correct shape is maintained for a long time. The Cestone sofa was designed to be placed at the center of the living room. In the spotlight are the sofa’s back and sides, parts that cannot usually be counted on to bring added value. Instead, the back and sides of the Cestone sofa are made up of a metal structure upholstered with woven strips of cowhide. Two options of the irregular woven pattern, with strips in two different widths, are available. The cowhide strips can be closely woven, forming a compact surface; or more loosely woven, allowing the underlying upholstery fabric to show through. The resulting ‘checkerboard’ pattern makes a strong visual statement in aesthetically pleasing contrast to the soft, perfectly-proportioned upholstered parts. The Cestone sofa can be paired with its eponymous coffee tables, with top in Canaletto walnut or ash, in a broad range of stains that create a delightful textural contrast with the warmth of the cowhide.
